Governance Scorecards

Quantify FinOps maturity across your subscriptions and drive continuous improvement.

Overview

Governance scorecards provide a FinOps maturity score for each subscription in your organization. Scores are calculated automatically and give teams a clear, objective measure of how well they are managing cloud costs.

Score Components

Each scorecard is composed of four equally weighted components:

  • Tagging compliance (25%) — percentage of resources with required tags applied
  • Commitment coverage (25%) — percentage of eligible spend covered by reservations or savings plans
  • Waste percentage (25%) — proportion of spend identified as idle or underutilized
  • Budget adherence (25%) — how closely actual spend tracks to the defined budget

How Scores Are Calculated

A background worker automatically recalculates scores every 24 hours. Each component is scored from 0 to 100, and the final score is the weighted average of all four components. No manual input is required — CostBeacon pulls the data it needs from your connected Azure subscriptions.

Using Scorecards

  • Drive team adoption — share scores with teams to create healthy competition and accountability around cloud cost management
  • Identify low-scoring subscriptions — quickly find the subscriptions that need the most attention and focus improvement efforts where they will have the greatest impact
